How it works
How does the NFC tag work?
There's a small NFC tag sealed inside the plaque. When you hold a phone close to it, the phone reads a web address from the tag and opens it — exactly the same technology as a contactless bank card. The tag has no battery and never needs charging.
Which phones work with TripTap?
Every iPhone from the XR onwards (iOS 14+) reads NFC tags automatically with the screen on and unlocked — just hold the top of the phone near the plaque. Most Android phones from the last decade also work; NFC may need switching on in settings. Older iPhones (8, X and earlier) can read tags through the Shortcuts app but not automatically.
Do I need to install an app?
No. Tapping opens your album in whatever browser your phone already uses. There is no app, no account and nothing to sign into — for you or for anyone you hand the plaque to.
What if my phone doesn't have NFC?
Your album is a normal web page, so the link in your confirmation email opens it on any device. The tag is a shortcut, not the only way in.
Your album
How do I add photos and videos?
As soon as your order is paid we email you a private link for each plaque. Open it, choose your photos and videos, and they're added. You can do it on a phone, a laptop, or both, and come back whenever you like.
How private is my album?
Albums are never listed, never indexed by search engines, and cannot be found by guessing. They're reachable in exactly three ways: the private link we email you, your account if you create one, and physically tapping the plaque. Anyone who taps it can look, but only you can add, edit or delete.
How much can I upload?
Every album includes 500 MB. Individual photos can be up to 25 MB and videos up to 200 MB. Add 500 MB for £5 each time before purchase. Three add-ons give 2000 MB total for £15 extra. There is no separate hosting fee.
Can I change the album later?
Yes, as often as you like. Add photos, remove them, change the title or the trip dates. The plaque always opens the current version — the tag itself never has to change.
I bought several plaques. Do they share an album?
No. Every plaque gets its own album. Buy Scotland, Greece and Italy and you get three separate albums, each opened by its own plaque.
How long do albums stay available?
Albums run for 50 years from creation. After that, viewing and uploads stop, including NFC access. There is no subscription or automatic renewal. Keep your own copies of your photographs and videos.
Ordering and delivery
Do I need an account to order?
No. Checkout only needs an email address, and everything — your order, your album, your upload links — arrives by email. You can create an account afterwards if you'd like it all in one place.
Where do you ship?
The UK and Europe. Shipping is free on orders over £40, including to Europe. Everything is sent with Royal Mail, tracked as standard.
How long until it arrives?
Each plaque is made to order, so allow 2–5 working days for us to print, programme and check it before dispatch. Royal Mail delivery times are on top of that and are shown at checkout.
Is there a discount for buying more than one?
Yes — buy two or more plaques in the same order and the bundle discount is applied automatically in your cart. You don't need a code.
If something goes wrong
What's your refund policy?
We offer a full refund within 7 days where you can supply evidence of a malfunction or breakage — a photo or a short video is usually enough. Because each plaque is made to order for a specific destination, we don't otherwise accept returns.
My TripTap arrived damaged.
Email triptapofficial@gmail.com with your order number and a photo. We'll replace it.
The NFC tag has stopped working.
Get in touch and we'll send a replacement. Your album is completely unaffected — it isn't stored on the tag. We simply point the new tag at the album you already have, and every photo stays exactly where it is.
I've lost my album link.
Use the 'Find your order' page with the email address you ordered with and your order number, and we'll send it again.
